Online Safety

Online Safety  Digital safety is a key aspect in teaching computing to children as it states in the national curriculum that children should ‘…use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies…’ (NC, 2022, p.2). Computational Thinking

Computational thinking is a problem-solving method that is used in computer science that solves problems in ways which a human and computer can understand. This involves decomposition and abstraction. It also involves coding and algorithms which is highlighted in the national curriculum that children should ‘…understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and those programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions…’ (NC, 2022, p.2). This highlights the importance of computational thinking as it is required to be taught to children in key stage 1. Additionally, Csizmadia et al. (2015, p.5) argues that it should be emphasised that computational thinking concentrates on pupils performing a thought process, not on the production of artefacts or evidence. Computational thinking is the development of thinking skills, and it supports learning and understanding through children’s mistakes, this will help to build resilience in th...

Interactive Whitboards

You will need a computer and a projector for the interactive whiteboard. This is a beneficial tool to use when teaching as it can allow teachers to ‘…contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area…’ (2022) which is stated as an expected teaching standard. Teachers can create more lively and engaging lesson with the use of interactive whiteboards. By having ‘…The ability to create presentations in an electronic format means that classroom resources can be created on a computer and saved to...
